Ístex, the company that produces Icelandic yarn, was founded in 1896 in Mosfellsbær. Ístex processes about 99% of all Icelandic wool, buying yarn from the farmers. Icelandic farmers own 80% of the company. Istex yarns for hand knitting include the popular Alafosslopi and Léttlopi, along with Plötulopi, Bulkylopi and Einband.

Garments made from Icelandic wool are great for outdoors on it’s own or worn over/under a wind jacket. Knit a traditional Lopapeysa, like Riddari or use these yarns for modern designs.
