You can buy tips and cables of circular needles separately. That way you can easily adjust the length of the circular needles, without having to buy fixed size needles of the same size in many different lengths. The interchangeable needle tips are screwed onto the cable by hand and tightened using the included cable key.


The tips are easy to remove from the cable. Stoppers can be screwed to the ends of the cable to prevent the stitches from escaping. The length of the circular needle is the length of the cable + the tips attached. Shorter lengths, such as 40 cm and 50 cm, require the use of short interchangeable needle tips.

How to use interchangeable Needles

Interchangeable knitting needles offer versatility and convenience by allowing you to switch needle sizes and cable lengths easily for different projects. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use them:

  1. Select the Needle Tips and Cable: Choose the needle tips in the appropriate size for your project and the desired cable length. Most interchangeable needles, like KnitPro, are compatible with various cable lengths, offering flexibility for different knitting projects.

  2. Attach the Needle Tips to the Cable: Insert the threaded end of the cable into the base of the needle tip and twist gently to attach. Use the small tightening key (included with most sets) by inserting it into the small hole near the needle base and holding it steady while twisting the needle tip. This gives a secure attachment and prevents the needle from unscrewing while you knit.

  3. Check the Connection: Before you start knitting, gently tug on the connection to ensure that the needle tip is securely fastened to the cable. A secure connection prevents snagging or loosening while knitting.

  4. Begin Knitting: Once the needle tips are securely attached to the cable, you can begin your knitting project as usual. Interchangeable needles work well for a variety of projects, from flat knitting to circular and even magic loop knitting for smaller diameters.

  5. Switching Needle Sizes or Cable Lengths: If you need to change the needle size or cable length during your project, simply unscrew the tips with the tightening key, and replace them with a new size or cable.

  6. Storing the Needles: When you’re done, unscrew the needle tips from the cable and store them in their case. Most interchangeable sets include caps to secure the cable ends, which is especially useful if you want to keep your project on the cable without the needles attached.

Using interchangeable needles is efficient and convenient for all knitting projects, offering flexibility and adaptability.
