Pick up your chunky needles and cast on stitches for a chunky colorwork sweater!

Villahullu Riihineule, Sumuneule and Hiutaleneule sweaters are knit with Istex Alafosslopi yarn

Villahullu, Finnish for  “Wool crazy”, Heli Nikula’s colorwork sweater knitting patterns are classic colorwork yoke sweaters but with a Finnish touch. She started her designing career a couple of years ago, when the Icelandic sweater trended here in Finland. After finishing her first colorwork sweater, Icelandic sweater Riddari, she has not stopped knitting. Her knitting patterns are available in the Finnish book Villahullu as well as individual patterns in Villahullu.fi. 

We chose our three favorite patterns from the book to knit this fall. Sweaters are knit with Istex Alafosslopi Icelandic wool yarn. Substitute with Sandnes Garn Fritidsgarn, for slightly lighter weight sweater or knit with two strands of Istex Lettlopi.

Loimuneule

Loimuneule sweater with an astounding colorwork yoke worked with the main color and four contrasting colors shown. Light version colors below. The dark version is worked with three colors only, dark main color, white and orange.

Zigzag colorwork yoke sweater is knitted bottom up. Play with colors in the yoke! The light color version has 0056 as the Main Color.
