Knit a new Icelandic sweater

Julkaistu: 23.11.2021

Think it’s time to knit another Icelandic sweater. I gathered here a few contemporary knitwear designs that are worth considering when thinking about making something with Icelandic yarn. You can never go wrong with a traditional Lopapeysa, but we are  stunned by a few new designs.

Just look at this one. This is Badger and Bloom sweater from Anne Ventzel. This is a recently released pattern that I think would look stylish in Lettlopi Straw and Chocolate Heather, I just love that chocolatey brown! Or maybe I’ll knit this from this lovely Mimosa color, it’s a lively yellow that I just adore. This sweater is definitely a timeless unisex design and there is also a chilren’s version Badger Sweater. You can go matchy-matchy.

Tiina on the other hand has been dreaming of knitting the Holly Sweater from Hanne Rimmen. This is another stylish, maybe a bit more traditional colorwork yoke sweater. Pine Green Heather for the main color and white would look even a bit christmasy. You can add red bobbles after finishing to make it even more of a Christmas sweater.

If you really tend to be cold, knit something from Alafosslopi. Vega cardigan from Kajsa Vuorela is a stunning piece of knitwear. The stunning colorwork on this cardigan is cleverly placed on the sleeves! I would probably use (again) chocolate heather and Ecru. I’ve been eyeing the Ecru colorway for a while. I would also like to knit a dress or maybe a coat from Alafoss.

In the end anything you knit from these two yarns will keep you warm. You can wear them indoors or outdoors. The knitted garments will work well also in a light drizzle, because long fibers make the knitted garment water resistant. Many people have started knitting because of wanting to knit an Icelandic sweater. It’s really great to see all these new designs for such a traditional knitwear.
