Hyacinth Mittens knitting pattern

Knit Enikö Balogh's Hyacinth colorwork mittens from Tukuwool Fingering Finnish Wool Yarn

The Hyacinth mittens se are fun, all colorwork mittens with a folded edge. The idea behind the Hyacinth mittens came from the plentiful Hyacinth flowers. The design creates a flower like motif at the top of the mittens. This motif doesn’t have any long floats, although it’s all colorwork it’s rather simple.

I chose Tukuwool Fingering for this design because it’s an awesome yarn for colorwork. It seems as if it is designed for this. I love how it feels to knit it and it has a lovely color chart. First I knitted the mittens in the dark grey and mint green. The pattern was so addicting I just kept knitting them. Wasn’t even thinking about writing a pattern. I just wanted to see if I could create a design that vaguely resembles a flower at the top of the mittens.

So I finished the mittens and they turned out a bit too small. Hence, I cast on another pair in the shocking pink and dark green. This is a bright combination that I’m sure, it’s not everybody’s cup of tea. With bigger needles the mittens turned out just right. Okay, I did take out one pattern repeat from length.

I love that these mittens have a long cuff. Maybe I get too cold in the winter, but these definitely keep me warm. I tested these in Lapland and they work! Also one of my test knitters said that she has been wearing these mittens since finishing all the time. Such a lovely feedback!
