Kevät Fingerless Mittens Pattern PDF

This is an easy pattern for fingerless mittens. Tubular cast-on and bind-off methods are used for this project. These methods provide a neat and clean look for the edges. You can also use your personal preferred methods for casting on and binding off. The pattern is written for mYak Baby Silk for softness and being a perfect choice for fingerless mitts, but the pattern can easily be adapted for different yarn weights.

Yarn and Additional Materials

mYak Baby Silk yarn 25g ; (116 m (127 yds) / 25 g; 50% silk, 50% yak)

Circular needle 2.5 mm (US 1.5) at least 80 cm (32 in) or DPNs for Stockinette Stitch

Circular needle 3 mm (US 2.5) at least 80 cm (32 in) or DPNs for Tubular Cast-On

Tapestry needle

Crochet hook and a small amount of waste yarn for the provisional cast-on method

Gauge and Measurements

Gauge 28 sts x 36 rounds = 10 cm (4 in) measured over Stockinette Stitch using 2.5 (US 1.5) needles

Measurements of the finished mitt: circumference ca. 20 cm (7.75 in); length ca.18 cm (7 in)

Directions

Cast on for 1x1 ribbing using the Tubular Cast-On method in the following way (Finnish video tutorial can be found from our YouTube channel):

CO 28 sts using a provisional cast-on method. You can use the crocheted provisional cast-on method with some waste yarn (mercerized cotton would be a good alternative) and a crochet hook; chain at least 28 sts. Cut yarn. With working yarn and a 3 mm (US 2.5) circular needle or a DPN pick up and knit 28 sts along the ridge of bumps running on one side of the crochet chain. Next, work 3 rows in stockinette stitch back and forth (do not joint to work in the round just yet). Next, unravel the crochet chain and at the same time pick up 28 sts onto the other end of the circular needle  or a DPN. Align the needles side by side so that the RS of the work is facing down and using the 2.5 mm (US 1.5) circular needle or a DNP start working K1 from the front needle and P1 from the back needle. Keep on repeating K1, P1 by alternating between front and back needles until you have worked a total of 56 sts. Next, organize the sts on a circular needle or onto DPNs so that you are ready to work a small circumference in the round.

Continue working with the 2.5 mm (US 1.5) needles and work 5 rounds in ribbing K1, P1. Next, start working in stockinette stitch in the round and continue until the work measures 10 cm (4 in) from the beginning. Next, work 10 rows or ca. 3 cm (1.25 in) in stockinette stitch back and forth; this will create a thumb hole at one side of the piece. Tip for creating neat edges: always slip the last stitch of the row purlwise with yarn in front and knit the first stitch of the next row. Next, continue by working in stockinette stitch in the round ca. 5 cm (2 in). Finish by working 2 rounds in ribbing K1, P1.

BO all sts using the Tubular Bind-Off method (Finnish tutorial can be found from our YouTube channel):

Set-up round 1: *K1, sl1 wyif; repeat from * to end of round.

Set-up round 2: *Sl1 wyib, P1; repeat from * to end of round.

Cut yarn leaving a long tail (about 3 x the bind-off edge) for binding off the sts. BO all sts using a tapestry needle. Weave in ends.

Make another mitt to match.
